Find Your Fit
Size Guide
How to choose a chain length, find a ring size with a chart, and size a bracelet at home.
The quickest way to get a size right is to measure something that already fits: a chain you like the length of, a ring you wear on the same finger, or a bracelet that sits the way you want. Measure it flat with a ruler and match it to the charts below.
Chain Lengths
To measure a chain: open the clasp, lay the chain out straight, and measure it end to end, clasp included. Jewelers of America groups necklace lengths like this:
| Length | Name | Where it sits |
|---|---|---|
| 12 to 14 in | Collar | Above the neckbone, against the throat |
| 14 to 16 in | Choker | At the base of the neck |
| 17 to 19 in | Princess | Just below the neckbone |
| 20 to 25 in | Matinee | From below the collarbone to the chest |
| 26 to 36 in | Opera | Below the chest |
If you are between two lengths, the longer one is the easier one to wear. A pendant hangs below the chain, so its own height adds to where it lands.
To measure at home: lay a piece of string around your neck where you want the chain to sit, mark where the ends meet, and measure the string flat against a ruler. Pick the chain length closest to that number.
Ring Sizes
US ring sizes match the inside of the ring. This chart is from the Gemological Institute of America:
| US size | Inside diameter | Inside circumference |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | 15.7mm | 49.3mm |
| 6 | 16.5mm | 51.8mm |
| 7 | 17.3mm | 54.3mm |
| 8 | 18.1mm | 56.9mm |
| 9 | 19.0mm | 59.7mm |
| 10 | 19.8mm | 62.2mm |
| 11 | 20.6mm | 64.7mm |
| 12 | 21.4mm | 67.2mm |
From a ring that fits: measure straight across the inside of the ring, edge to edge, and find the closest inside diameter.
From your finger: wrap a thin strip of paper around the base of the finger, mark where it overlaps, and measure the length for the circumference. Paper can tear or slip, so measure twice. A jeweler with a set of ring sizers is still the most accurate answer.
Three things that change the fit:
- Fingers shrink in the cold and swell in the heat, so measure at a normal temperature.
- Wide bands fit more snugly than thin ones, so go up a little for a wide band.
- The ring has to slide over your knuckle, so if the knuckle is the widest part, size for it.
Vermeil and plated rings, and bands set with stones all the way around, cannot be resized, so check the size before you order.
Bracelet Lengths
Bracelets are listed by their full length in inches, or in sizes such as Small, Medium, and Large. For a sized bracelet or cuff, write to us before you order and we will tell you which wrist each size fits. For a length, measure your wrist just above the wrist bone with a strip of paper, then add about half an inch for a close fit or a full inch for a looser one.
An open cuff has no clasp and bends a little to fit.
Earrings
A pair's size, when it has one, is on its page. A size in millimeters on hoops and huggies is the inside diameter: 10mm sits snug against the earlobe, and 20mm or more hangs below it.
